What is open plan living?
Open plan is combining two or more rooms together to produce a space with the minimum amount of walls sectioning of the areas from each other and allowing the space to feel like one.
Open plan living is an element that has become globally popular in many homes. The success shows how just how keen we are to create spaces that have multi-purpose uses, flows and feels large. New builds tend to be small and using open plan allows you to maximize the space around you.
Many clients come to me questioning whether open plan living is right for them. Personally I believe open plan rooms are the way forward, however I understand why it may seem to be an overwhelming decision for those of you who are still weighing up the pros and cons.
Lets explore all the wonderful parts of open plan living.
Brings your family together-
By including open plan spaces into your home, it allows your family to come together. While your husband cooks the dinner in the kitchen, the kids finish of their homework at the dinning table and you cozy up on the sofa to get lost in your favorite book. You may be distance in your activities, but the space allows you to feel your families presences is close.
Life can get busy and finding time to spend with your loved ones can seem impossible. Open plan living creates a multi-functional space to bring families and friends closer together.
Adds overall value to the property-
No matter the size of the property, incorporating open plan living into your home instantly makes your homes value go up. Young families, first time buyers, retired couples are all visually attracted to the way open plan is designed. The real estate market has caught on to this and proved property value increases by adding open plan features into your home.
Lighter space-
Knocking down walls to open up a space allows natural light free to flow around the now enlarged space. There are no barriers for light to get caught in and the room will feel brighter and spacious. Natural light filling a home only improves the overall mood compared to a closed off and dull space.
Easy watching-
Open plan layouts allows you to have eyes on your children at all time. Young kids can be stressful, the constant feeling of needing to be in two places at once. Combining rooms makes that a whole lot easier, you are able to combine keeping a close watch on the kids with completing your daily activity.
Multiple layout options-
If your anything like me, boredom strikes and I am rearranging the whole house to give it a new look. That’s the beauty of open plan, a few furniture shifts here and there, and you have a whole new room. The flexibility open plan brings is an overall advantage.
Of course there are so many more benefits to adding open plan layouts into your home. However these are the ones that stand out to me, the ones that would be my reason for doing so. Overall open plan living creates a freeing, approachable and beautiful way of living within your home.
