Where to find interior design inspiration?

My top piece of advice for anyone starting a renovation project or even just giving a single room a spruce up, is to get inspired. Find images, materials and concepts that make you feel happy, excited and full of life. Without a vision your dream can not be brought to life.

Trends change quickly and new ideas are brought upon us swiftly. Exploring new places to get interior design inspiration, can make or break your final look. Lets explore my go to spots for interior design inspirations and help to expand your mind to new movements and possibilities.

Pinterest

Always and forever will be my first stop for finding interior design inspiration. I can guarantee every designer, first time home owner, and house renovators have used Pinterest on almost every project (I would be seriously shocked if they do not). Pinterest is one of the largest image sharing social media for discover ideas and forming boards full of your new findings.

Forming pinboards is straightforward and an effortless way of communicating you ideas to others. And if you are much like myself and love seeing elements organized with easy access you will love Pinterest. It is a free platform, amazing for separating ideas into correct folders.

Instagram

Instagram is a very visually pleasing software, perfect for finding interior design inspiration. One of my favorite ways to use Instagram is hashtags. Hashtags allow similar content to be grouped together. Furthermore Instagram can be great for interacting with designers to gain inspirations, visions and creating your dream interiors.

Restaurants

This may seem a strange suggestion. In reality restaurants play a big part in our life's. A place we gather to connect with family and friends or even to take a moment for yourself and get lost in mouthwatering food. Whatever it may be our faviourte restaurants have a way of pulling us back again and again. Of course the breathtaking food and great service helps but subconsciously the décor attracts us. The décor impacts the atmosphere and how the space feels and most importantly makes you feel.

Visit new restaurants and explore their décor. Check out colour schemes, lighting and finishes. Take pictures of anything that catches your eyes.

Tv and films

Interiors on a set are critical for portraying a story. Characters surroundings allow viewers to have and insight to their personality, an era, a place or even a mood. An example I always refer back to is the Great Gatsby, I know may other designer that do too! The first time I watched it I was hit with all the glitz and glamour, instantly taking my mind to the roaring twenties. Tv and movies are at out fingertips nowadays so sit back, relax and get inspired.

Travel

Travelling is my ultimate favorite way to gain inspiration for interior design. Travelling is my happy place. No matter where I am or what I am doing I love how freeing travelling is. You are constantly being introduced to new smells, new sights and most importantly new inspirations. Not only does travelling have an influence on the décor throughout your home but also fills the space with amazing memories.

Fashion

Interior design and fashion fit hand in hand. You may not notice but styles are reflected through fashion and décor are often very similar. Colour, patterns, materials and so much more are repeated through both elements. We all have a favorite clothes brands right? In my last blog post I discussed my love for Zara. My go to for a stylish outfit, so when I discovered Zara home I instantly fell in love. Most brands have a homeware department, so go do some research and check them out. Taking inspirations from clothes can be as simple as loving the colour of the lady's jumper in front of you in Asda and taking this as a shade to use into your home.

When it comes to finding interior design inspiration, do not limit your findings. Inspiration is all around you. A tip a tell all my clients is always carry a phone, a camera, or a device you can capture pictures on and a small notepad to take notes on anything that inspires you. Further more contact CJ Interiors, I am always happy to help clients realize there homes potential.
