How colours affects a room



I never truly understood the importance of colour until I studied interior design. It can be completely transform a space, taking it from 0 to 100.


More importantly it demands the mind to feel a certain way, further creating a mood in the room. With this in mind colour should not always be chosen to please the eye aesthetically but instead for how the colour affects the room and the mood it implements. Colour has the power to influence our moods without us even observing so.


I want to give you an insight into how colours affect a room and persuade your spirit. Lets breakdown popular colours and there impact.


Green-


Green provokes peace, harmony and balance. Resulting in a calming environment, reducing stress.


The colour green connects with natural elements and brings a feeling of being close to nature.


An all-around restful and mind-clearing colour.



Red-


Red stimulates excitement, passion and power.


It is considered that red provokes the strongest emotions of any colour, making it a very dynamic colour.



Studies have proven red can be the cause of not only emotional feelings but also plays a part of physical effects:

- Raised blood pressure

- Increased metabolism

- Elevated heart rate

- Increased respiration

All the changes in your body causes your enthusiasm levels to rise.


Although red can be associated with danger and aggression, its positive features out weigh the negative. It represents love, desire and playful energy throughout the space.



Blue-


Blue generates emotions of serenity, productivity, and trust.


The use of blue allows a space to calm your mind and create a peaceful, soothing and stable area.


Over all blue is a safe and relaxing colour to bring into your home.



Orange-


Orange portrays warmth and energetic vibes.


If an area lacks enthusiasm and you want to create a statement without dominating the room, orange is the way to go. It is revitalizing and


brings an inner feeling of happiness and balance.



Yellow-


Yellow makes you feel optimistic, joyful and full of laughter.


A colour that is full of spirit and zest. Yellow permits warmth while grabbing your attention through its visibility. It allows a fun elements into a space to bring energy and light.


Purple-


Purple represents royalty, wealth and creativity.


It is a very versatile colour as it has a range of shades allowing your mind to feel and variety of feelings. On one hand it makes you feel independent and powerful, however it can also be luxurious, romantic and mysterious.


It does not matter if you are making a small change to a space or considering a full makeover, do not over look the strength colour has. Consider the potential is has to provoke the feelings you will feel in the space and the overall mood of the room. Always review how colours affects a room.
