Colour/paint-
Go for light or dark colouring. Stick to opposite ends of the colour shades. Medium shades can make a room seem smaller, the opposite to what you are trying to achieve. On the other hand deep and bright shades produces contrast which further creates depth, resulting in a bigger appearance.
Paint everything the same colour. And yes I mean everything. The walls, the doors, the skirting boards. By doing so you create a continuous flow, allowing no time for your eyes to perceive a break.

Let as much light in as possible. The more light the better. Include multiple light sources around the room, this an be natural or artificial.
You can easily use reflection of light to enhance the light in a space. Use large mirrors and hang them on the darkest wall in the room that receives the least amount of natural light.
Large décor-

Curtains-
When it comes to purchasing curtains for a small room, always go for floor to ceiling style. This allows the ceiling to appear higher resulting in further opening up the space.
